Where are My Bedclothes products made? Our linens are woven in the green hills of northern Portugal, a region celebrated for its textile mastery and centuries-old craftsmanship. Portuguese mills prioritise responsible production, fine fabrics and long-lasting quality. We use natural and plant-based fibres such as cotton, linen, hemp, lyocell and cashmere.
What does "bedclothes" mean? Bedclothes is an old English word for bed linens dating back to the 1100s. We thought it high time the word returned, dressed properly and ready for the modern age. It simply refers to sheets, pillowcases, duvet covers and other items used to dress a bed.
Why are we named My Bedclothes? 'Bedclothes' is an old English word for linens. We thought it high time the word returned, dressed properly and ready for the modern age.
Who are My Bedclothes made for? My Bedclothes is for people who want to dress their bed with sheets that feel incredible, look beautiful and are sustainably sourced. Carefully designed and produced with natural and plant-based fibres, such as cotton, that last.
What materials are My Bedclothes sheets made from? Our collections are made using carefully selected natural and plant-based fibres: cotton, cashmere, linen, hemp and lyocell. All fabrics are chosen for breathability, durability and the highest level of comfort.
What is lyocell bedding? Lyocell bedclothes are made from regenerated cellulose fibres, typically derived from sustainably sourced wood pulp, using a low-impact closed-loop production process. It is known for its exceptional softness, breathability and durability. Lyocell is naturally moisture-wicking, temperature-regulating and gentle on sensitive skin.
What is fresh cotton? Fresh cotton is our 400 thread count cotton percale: one thread over, one under. Percale is a closely woven plain-weave cotton fabric known for its crisp, cool feel. It has a matte finish and becomes softer with each wash while maintaining its structure.
What is soft cotton cashmere bedclothes? Soft cotton cashmere bedclothes blend the breathability and durability of cotton with the luxurious softness of cashmere. This combination creates sheets that are exceptionally soft to the touch while remaining practical for everyday use.
Is lyocell bedding suitable for sensitive skin? Yes, lyocell is excellent for sensitive skin. Its smooth fibre surface creates less friction against the skin, and its natural moisture-wicking properties help regulate temperature and reduce irritation. Lyocell is also hypoallergenic and resistant to bacterial growth, making it ideal for those with skin sensitivities.
How does TENCEL™ feel compared to cotton or silk? TENCEL™ sits between the two. It has the cool, breathable feel of a fine cotton, with the soft drape and gentle sheen of silk. It is quieter than silk against the ear, and gentler than cotton against the skin and hair. Most people describe it as feeling like a well-made silk without the fragility.
Is My Bedclothes sustainable? Yes, sustainability is central to everything we do. Our linens are made from natural and plant-based, sustainable fibres woven in Portuguese mills that prioritise responsible production. All our products are OEKO-TEX certified, meaning they are tested for harmful substances. We focus on quality and longevity so your sheets last for years, reducing waste.
Why is buying bedclothes locally better? Buying bedclothes from smaller, locally focused brands often means shorter supply chains, greater transparency and more accountable production practices. Products made closer to home typically have lower carbon footprints from reduced shipping, and supporting local makers helps sustain traditional textile craftsmanship and regional economies.
Is buying from small brands better than buying from large heritage brands? Small brands often offer greater transparency about sourcing and production, with shorter supply chains and closer relationships with their makers. They typically prioritise quality over volume and are more agile in adopting sustainable practices. While large brands may have more resources, smaller brands often provide more personal accountability for their environmental and social impact.
What does OEKO-TEX certified mean? OEKO-TEX certification means that textiles have been tested for harmful substances and are safe for human health. The Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX is one of the world's best-known labels for textiles tested for harmful substances. All My Bedclothes products carry this certification.
How should I wash my bedclothes? Wash your bedclothes at 40°C using a gentle cycle with similar colours. Avoid bleach and fabric softeners, which can damage natural fibres over time. For lyocell and cotton cashmere blends, use a mild detergent. Tumble dry on low or line dry for best results.
How often should I wash my sheets? We recommend washing your sheets every one to two weeks for optimal hygiene and comfort. Pillowcases may benefit from more frequent washing due to direct contact with skin and hair. Regular washing helps maintain the fabric's softness and longevity.
How do I care for lyocell sheets? Lyocell sheets should be washed at 30-40°C on a gentle cycle. Use a mild detergent and avoid bleach. Tumble dry on low heat or air dry. Lyocell becomes softer with each wash and resists wrinkles, requiring minimal ironing. If ironing, use a medium setting.
Do the sheets get softer over time? Yes, all our natural fibre sheets become softer with each wash while maintaining their quality and structure. Fresh cotton develops a lovely lived-in softness, lyocell becomes even silkier, and brushed cotton maintains its plush feel. Proper care helps your sheets age beautifully.

Can I be notified when something comes back in stock? Sign up for our letters and we will write to you when something is back or newly made.
How does the collection model work? Each special collection is made in a defined batch — typically around 20 pieces per design — and opens when production is ready. The collection stays open until the fabric is gone, then it closes. There is no fixed calendar date for what comes next. The Essentials, our permanent range, is available year-round and replenished when stock allows.
What bed sizes are available? We offer bedclothes in UK standard sizes including Single, Double, King, Super King and Emperor. Each product page shows available sizes and dimensions. Our fitted sheets are deep fitted to accommodate mattresses up to 40cm deep. Refer to our bed size converter if you want to see the size in EU, US or other sizes. Often they do match or come close to matching.
What does deep fitted mean? Deep fitted sheets have extra-deep pockets that accommodate thicker mattresses, typically up to 40cm deep. This ensures the sheet stays securely in place without coming untucked. All My Bedclothes fitted sheets are deep fitted as standard.
What pillowcase sizes do you offer? We offer standard pillowcases (50x75cm) which fit most UK pillows, and housewife style pillowcases with a neat envelope closure. Our pillowcases are generously sized to ensure a proper fit without the pillow bulging or slipping out.
Why do my sheets wrinkle? Because they are made from pure cotton with no chemical finishing. Most commercial bedding is treated with formaldehyde-based agents during manufacture, applied to hold the fabric flat and produce a crisp, uniform hand feel straight from the packaging. We don't use them, and we never will. What you are seeing when the sheets crease is cotton behaving exactly as it should: naturally, without intervention. The wrinkling is not a defect. It is evidence of what isn't in the fabric, no formaldehyde, no chemical sizing, no synthetic treatment of any kind. Iron on a medium heat for a clean, pressed finish. Or don't, the texture that comes off the line has its own quiet character. The sheets will also continue to soften with every wash, which is the opposite of what chemically finished bedding does over time.
Where is your bed linen made? Our bed linen is made from natural fibres in northern Portugal, a region that has been a centre of fine textile production for centuries. Every piece is inspected by hand before it leaves.
What is OEKO-TEX® certification and why does it matter? OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 is an independent certification that tests every component of a finished textile, the fabric, the threads, the dyes, the buttons, the auxiliary materials, against a list of over 100 harmful substances, including formaldehyde, heavy metals, pesticide residues, and allergenic dyes. Certification means that every part of what touches your skin has been verified safe for prolonged contact. It is one of the most rigorous third-party standards in the textile industry, and it applies to the finished product, not just the raw material.
